The Sturgis Exchange Club is proud to announce the recipients of the 33rd annual William & Helen Doyle/Exchange Club Community Service Awards. These prestigious awards, funded by the William and Helen Doyle Fund, recognize charitable and educational programs that make a meaningful impact in the Sturgis community. Since the fund’s establishment in 1991, it has awarded more than $140,000 in grants to over 90 deserving programs.

This year, we are pleased to honor the St. Joseph County ISD and Youth For Christ for their exceptional dedication and service. Their commitment to enriching the lives of others exemplifies the spirit of this award. Congratulations to both recipients for their contributions to our community!

Meet the Recipients!

St. Joseph County ISD

$1,181.25 – Suicide Prevention Training: QPR

The St. Joseph County ISD has been awarded a William & Helen Doyle Fund grant to support the purchase of 525 books to use for QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) suicide prevention protocol training events. With the books, the ISD will be able to expand training to a broad range of community members at little or no cost to participants. Training has already occurred at Commission on Aging sites, Pivotal, St. Josph Couty Conservation Club, and the ISD. The ISD mental health team has also partnered with the Suicide Prevention Task Force of St. Joseph County, the LOSS team, and Pivotal. The training represents a meaningful effort to connect with and support members of our community who may be suffering in silence.

Youth For Christ of Southwest Michigan

$2,500 – Outdoor Basketball / Pickleball Project

Youth for Christ is developing a new outdoor basketball and pickleball court to enhance recreational opportunities for local youth. This grant from the William & Helen Doyle Fund will specifically support the purchase of an outdoor basketball hoop. This project is a collaborative effort, made possible through the support of volunteers, in-kind donations, and a matching grant from an additional funding source. Each year, YFC engages with hundreds of middle and high school students, and while the courts are designed primarily for their use, they will also be available for community use.
