Honoring 50 Years of Giving: The Legacy of TRACF and a Bold Step Toward Countywide Impact
Celebrating 50 Years of Impact in Three Rivers
Fifty years ago, a group of visionary citizens in Three Rivers set out to create something extraordinary, a foundation built on generosity, community, and the belief that local giving could spark lasting change. That vision became the Three Rivers Area Community Foundation (TRACF).
Since its founding in 1975, TRACF has been a driving force for good, supporting nonprofits, championing education through scholarships, and funding initiatives that improved quality of life in the Three Rivers area. The Foundation has grown steadily over the decades thanks to the commitment of donors, board members, and community partners who believe in local philanthropy.
While TRACF’s independent chapter closes, its legacy will continue and grow through the unified countywide foundation. The community that shaped and sustained TRACF for 50 years remains a vital part of the story moving forward.
“Fifty years of generosity built the foundation we’re standing on today,” said Lindsay Aguilar, Executive Director of SACF. “We’re excited to honor that legacy and carry it forward through expanded services and shared impact.”

A Stronger Future: Merging with the Sturgis Area Community Foundation
In January 2025, TRACF officially merged with the Sturgis Area Community Foundation (SACF), combining decades of experience and a shared vision for local philanthropy. The merger, led by Executive Directors Melissa Bliss and Lindsay Aguilar and approved by both boards, aims to strengthen services, increase efficiency, and broaden community reach.
“This merger allows us to expand our impact in meaningful ways,” said Bliss. “It’s an exciting step forward for the entire county.”
The merger brings together:
- Combined assets exceeding $40 million
- Expanded staff support and resources
- A countywide commitment to equity, opportunity, and long-term community investment
Importantly, the heart of TRACF remains in Three Rivers. A local advisory board will continue to guide grantmaking and uphold donor intent, now with access to enhanced tools, funding opportunities, and administrative support through the larger foundation.
“Melissa did a great job, and her continued service as a board member speaks to her lasting commitment,” said Ron Buckhold, TRACF Board President.

Looking to the Future
The newly unified foundation is planning for the future with bold goals and a countywide board on the horizon.
“In three to five years, we plan to be a $55 million foundation,” said Buckhold. “Be engaged. Be patient. Great things are coming.”
Whether through early childhood programs, educational scholarships, or neighborhood revitalization, the Foundation will continue to invest in what matters most, helping people and communities across St. Joseph County thrive.
To the donors, partners, and neighbors who helped shape TRACF’s 50-year legacy: thank you. We invite you to be part of this next chapter as we build a stronger, more connected future together.
