Donor Stories: Honoring the Legacy of David T. Stuck
For David T. Stuck, service was never about recognition, it was simply the way he lived. Born in 1924, David grew up during the Great Depression, served in World War II, and returned home to Three Rivers with a deep sense of responsibility to his community. With the help of the GI Bill, he earned his degree from Western Michigan University, married his college sweetheart Lois, and co-founded Fibre Converters in 1949.
From there, his impact only grew. David played an instrumental role in shaping community institutions, helping to establish Riverside Church, Lights of Love, and People’s Community Bank. In 1974, he became one of five Rotarians who launched the Three Rivers Area Community Foundation, later serving as its President for many years.
“He was known as a man who never sought the spotlight and was happy for other to get the credit.” – Jim Stuck, David’s son
To honor his life of integrity, kindness, and quiet leadership, the Stuck family created the David T. Stuck Founders Scholarship Fund. Inspired by the educational opportunity the GI Bill gave him, the scholarship recognizes students who combine academic achievement with community service. “Dad always put the needs of others first,” shares David’s son, Jim. “We hope recipients not only succeed as students and in their careers but also live lives of purpose: be kind, be an encourager, and make the world better than they found it.”
Through this fund, David’s example continues to guide the next generation, reminding us all that true legacy is measured not by accolades, but by the lives touched through humble service.
