Star Wars parties, summer concerts, rainy day picnics, Lego clubs…when it comes to serving the community, the White Pigeon Township Library is challenging the age-old idea that it’s just a quiet place to read. Now, with the establishment of the White Pigeon Township Library Outreach Fund, the library hopes to expand its work and continue its efforts to stay connected to people of all ages.

The White Pigeon Community Foundation, an affiliate community fund with the Sturgis Area Community Foundation, is proud to announce the establishment of the White Pigeon Township Library Outreach Fund.

Connecting with Community

Faced with the obstacle of a world pandemic, in recent years the White Pigeon Township Library introduced numerous programs to connect with residents in underserved areas. Using social media platforms, the library developed creative virtual programs like “Friday Funnies” with Director Perri Saunders, and “Book Buzz Book Reviews “, led by different members of the library staff. According to Saunders, efforts like these are important because they allow the community to get to know the library.

“At our core, we really want to have a relationship with people. It’s important to us that we are a place where anybody could walk in and feel like they belong here,” says Saunders.

Each month’s calendar is packed with events for the community such as SummerTime Tunes in the park and Art Classes, which are hosted in person or virtually. Saunders, along with Assistant Director, Lisa Hofmeister and the library staff, takes pride in the fact that all events related to the library are free to the community.

Through its Outreach Fund, the White Pigeon Township Library will continue to fund creative efforts that allow them to connect with people, build genuine relationships, and (maybe) even introduce them to a really great book.
